Quantum Systems Introduces Uncrewed Watercraft


The pace is astonishing. It’s only been six months since the UAS manufacturer Quantum Systems unveiled its first uncrewed ground vehicle, Mandrill. In June, Co-CEOs Florian Seibel and Sven Kruck presented plans for the potentially manned multipurpose aircraft PULSE P19, in the presence of Chancellor Friedrich Merz. And now, another major step: With Seavex (USV) and Subvex (UUV), the technology company is entering the uncrewed watercraft market.
What started with drones for surveillance and reconnaissance missions from the air has developed within a few years into a multi-domain portfolio. With uncrewed systems for operations in the air, on land, and now also on and under the water surface, Quantum Systems has positioned itself as a comprehensive UxS provider. Quantum Systems will officially present the Uncrewed Surface Vessel Seavex and the Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle Subvex alongside a NATO exercise in Portugal. During the event, the two systems will not only be showcased but also demonstrated at sea to highlight their capabilities. This expansion by Quantum Systems enhances its operational offerings and taps into a domain that is increasingly crucial for national security concepts and the protection of critical infrastructure internationally.

Like the air- and land-based systems, Seavex and Subvex integrate fully into Quantum Systems’ MOSAIC UXS software. This manufacturer-independent platform has open-architecture interfaces that enable planning, control, and monitoring of drone operations. This way, drones can operate in a common operational network, whether on land, at sea, or in the air. “We started in the air, expanded to land, and now we are going to sea. But the real step forward is not adding another domain. It is connecting them,” explains Florian Seibel, Co-CEO and Founder of Quantum Systems. “With Seavex and Subvex integrated into MOSAIC UXS, we are building one autonomous system across air, land and sea. That is where unmanned operations are heading, and that is what we are delivering.”

The Seavex, a catamaran-style uncrewed surface vessel with two slender hulls and extensive sensors for environmental monitoring and situational assessment, can be deployed continuously for up to two months, according to the manufacturer. A notable feature is its ability to serve as a base station for aerial and underwater drones. For instance, mission data from underwater vehicles like Subvex can be retrieved while they charge. Subvex itself is equipped with sonar and acoustic sensors and is designed for autonomous ISR missions at depths of up to 6,000 meters below sea level. The UUV reportedly “can operate for up to four days in active movement” and can be deployed alongside multiple Subvex vehicles. Furthermore, it can “park” on the seabed for data collection and monitoring for several weeks.
