With the Dock 4, DJI introduces a new “drone-in-a-box” solution that takes the continuous operation of unmanned systems to a new level. Thanks to an automated battery swap that takes just 25 seconds, the system significantly reduces downtime between flights. In combination with the new Matrice 5TD, which features AI-powered object recognition and high-performance sensors, the system enables highly precise real-time situational awareness for law enforcement agencies and infrastructure operators.
The DJI Dock 4 sets new standards for aerial operational readiness. Upon receiving a remote command, the Matrice 5TD takes off immediately. With a flight speed of up to 21 meters per second, the drone often reaches incident sites even before emergency responders. A key advantage is the fully automated battery swap: While conventional charging processes can take up to 30 minutes, the drone is ready for action again in just 25 seconds after docking. The Matrice 5TD itself offers a flight time of up to 59 minutes, enabling it to cover large areas in a single flight.
Versatile Sensors for Day and Night
The Matrice 5TD is designed for complex tasks and combines telephoto, infrared, and night vision cameras with laser rangefinding. The 11x telephoto zoom allows for the identification of even the smallest defects on power lines from a distance of 100 meters. The infrared camera, with a resolution of up to 2,560 × 2,048 pixels in UHR mode, precisely detects overheating. Thanks to Fusion Mode, thermal images and structural outlines can be combined, while the 4K night vision function delivers detailed full-color images even in the dark. The laser rangefinder, with a range of up to 3 kilometers, also supports the precise localization of objects or hazard hotspots such as wildfires.
For operation in challenging terrain, the drone is equipped with a three-directional millimeter-wave radar, a rotating LiDAR, and a six-directional visual sensor system. This combination enables reliable obstacle detection, even for thin objects such as power lines at night. The system operates within a temperature range of -40 °C to 50 °C, with integrated climate control and preheating to preserve battery life. The drone can take off and land safely in wind speeds of up to 12 meters per second.

Intelligent Workflows and Data Security
The Matrice 5TD’s integrated AI recognizes 17 object types in real time, including vehicles and people. Through the virtual cockpit in DJI FlightHub 2, emergency responders can perform targeted searches and trigger automated actions—such as tracking or taking snapshots—when anomalies are detected. Video transmission latency has been reduced to as low as 160 milliseconds. With regard to data security, DJI relies on regular certifications by independent third parties. In addition, the flight termination system meets the requirements for C6 compliance, enabling operation in strictly regulated airspaces.
For the industry, the combination of extremely short turnaround times and AI-powered analysis means a significant increase in efficiency for monitoring critical infrastructure and in disaster response. Automation reduces the need for on-site personnel and enables 24/7 monitoring, which was previously hardly economically feasible due to charging times and manual interventions.
Furthermore, the integration of LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar underscores the technological maturity required for autonomous operation in complex, urban, or industrial environments. For companies that rely on drone-based inspections, the system offers a scalable solution that—thanks to the extended warranty service and flyaway protection—also improves risk assessment for professional fleet operators.
