Germandrones expands its involvement in Ukraine

Of course, Russia's brutal attack on Ukraine has primarily led to enormous destruction and even greater human suffering. But the war is also a major driver of the international UxS industry. Ukraine has become one of the world's largest drone manufacturers. And numerous Western companies are supplying most of their production to the attacked country. The trend continues to rise. Germandrones has now also announced that it will intensify its involvement in Ukraine.

According to the manufacturer Germandrones, more than 500 Songbird surveillance drones have been delivered to units of the Ukrainian armed forces over the past twelve months. To ensure that the necessary pilot training and, in particular, maintenance and service tasks can be carried out promptly and close to the actual deployment location, the UAS manufacturer, which belongs to the Condor Group in Essen, is working with its partner company PERUN Precision Works Ukraine. This cooperation is set to be expanded further in the near future. „We are intensifying our commitment to providing long-term support to the Ukrainian armed forces through technology partnerships and local production“, explains Dr. Klaus Scho, CEO of Germandrones. „This will enable us to achieve our goals of technological leadership and growth more quickly.”

    Feedback from the field

The PERUN Precision Works Ukraine team is responsible for the on-site delivery of the Songbird drones, training military personnel, and providing technical maintenance for the UAS. Germandrones’ engineers and PERUN employees are also working closely with the Ukrainian armed forces to ensure that feedback from operational experience can be translated into technical improvements as quickly as possible. „The close integration of production, training, and field operations ensures rapid, practical improvements and reliable local supply“, explains PERUN CEO Igor Savuliak.

While the Songbird reconnaissance drones are manufactured in Germany, the Phoenix drones produced jointly by Germandrones and PERUN are manufactured directly in Ukraine. The Phoenix K1 can carry an effective payload of up to 3.5 kilograms over a distance of up to 30 kilometers. Target acquisition and tracking are supported by specialized AI software. As part of Germandrones’ intensified commitment to and in Ukraine, production capacities are currently being expanded so that, according to the company, up to 10,000 Phoenix units can be assembled per month. The explosives transported by the „one-way drones“ are provided by Ragnarök LLC, a joint venture between Germandrones and its Ukrainian partner Andrey Lutsky.
