XPONENTIAL in Detroit with Strong German Presence

  • Deutsch
  • The autonomous systems industry is entering a new phase, with Detroit becoming a global stage for this shift. At XPONENTIAL 2026 (May 11-14), the international community will, for the first time, convene alongside the Michigan Defense Expo (MDEX). The convergence of civilian innovation, industrial scaling and security-related applications is no longer a future scenario—it is already reality.

Following the successful XPONENTIAL Europe 2026 in Düsseldorf, attention now turns to the United States. With around 360 companies from 43 countries, the European flagship event has reinforced its role as a central industry hub. The focus was on real-world applications—from AI-powered systems and autonomous mobility to solutions for critical infrastructure. The message is clear: autonomous technologies are moving beyond the experimental stage and into real-world deployment. The defining challenge is no longer innovation but scaling autonomous systems safely and consistently across sectors.

This momentum continues on a global scale in Detroit. XPONENTIAL is recognized as the world’s leading platform for autonomous systems, bringing together industry, policymakers and research. With more than 10,000 attendees expected, the show floor is already completely sold out, even after being expanded to meet strong demand. The co-location with the Michigan Defense Expo (MDEX) in 2026 further strengthens this positioning, creating a platform where civilian and security-related innovations are brought together and advanced. In addition to the co-location with MDEX, XPONENTIAL 2026 will feature defense-focused programming examining how autonomous systems move from demonstration to operational deployment. The focus is increasingly on the policy frameworks, infrastructure and supply chains required to enable safe and scalable adoption.

A strong signal comes from the “German Pavilion,” organized by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) in cooperation with AUMA (Association of the German Trade Fair Industry). Companies such as AIR6 Systems, FRAMOS, HHLA Sky, and Germandrones will showcase technologies across the entire value chain—from sensors and robotics to AI-based applications for scalable autonomous systems. This highlights the full ecosystem behind autonomous systems, from components to deployed capability.

Additional attention will be generated by live demonstrations from companies and partners right on the show floor. These demonstrations will highlight what is currently driving the industry: high-performance systems that work under real-world conditions can be integrated seamlessly and solve tangible challenges. What became visible in Düsseldorf is now gaining further momentum across the Atlantic.

“The close partnership with AUVSI is a cornerstone for the international development of XPONENTIAL Europe. Meanwhile, the trade fair has established itself as an indispensable meeting point for the European industry—as a platform for exchange between industry, policymakers and regulators and for shaping the framework conditions for autonomous systems. Together, we are bringing innovation into application both in Europe and in the United States,” says Wolfram Diener, President & CEO of Messe Düsseldorf.

“XPONENTIAL Europe represents the consistent transition from innovation to application. Civilian and security-related technologies are converging—and that is exactly what we make visible: live and hands-on. We will continue to drive this forward,” adds Malte Seifert, Director Metals & Autonomous Technologies at Messe Düsseldorf.

The trajectory is clear: autonomous systems are on the threshold of large-scale deployment, driven by scaling, integration, and international collaboration. XPONENTIAL 2026 in Detroit will provide a key global impetus. The next XPONENTIAL Europe will take place in Düsseldorf from March 16 to 18, 2027, continuing to deepen this dialogue in Europe.
