The assistance system SkyCompanion from ETANA Systems aims to facilitate legal UAS operations

One-stop solution for compliant drone flights

Drone operators must consider various factors to ensure legal and safe UAS operations at all times, including registration, „drone license“, operational category, geo-zones, air and ground risks. Depending on the scenario, the necessary permissions must also be obtained. With SkyCompanion, ETANA Systems has developed an app that serves as a one-stop solution to support pilots in conducting compliant drone flights.

There are various reasons why drones appear in airspace where they shouldn’t be. These range from ignorance and negligence to intent. Alongside education and consistent prosecution of illegal activities, information and support solutions are crucial to ensuring the safe integration of UAS into the airspace. This is where ETANA Systems comes in. With the SkyCompanion app, the company from Braunschweig provides its customers with geo-zone and airspace information for all of Germany. Moreover, an implemented assistance system helps users determine the operational category of their planned flight missions in the app. However, it certainly does not replace any necessary operating permit required from the responsible authority. Alternatives may be found to remain within the open category.

    API option

Current weather data and air traffic information, as well as official airspace notifications (NOTAMs and TFRs), are available in the app. Upon request, drone flights conducted through SkyCompanion can also be documented and logged. This architecture serves as a time-saving one-stop solution, with which ETANA Systems aims to distinguish itself from competitors offering similar solutions. The software is available for Android and iOS, and the data and maps from SkyCompanion can also be integrated into other mission planning programs, such as QGroundControl or MissionPlanner, via an Application Programming Interface (API). Interested users can utilize the app after a 30-day trial period for 8.99 euros per month. With an annual payment of 79.99 euros, the monthly payments can also be reduced. This is a manageable investment for both commercial and private drone operators.
