The threat posed by UAS is fundamentally changing the requirements for military land systems. In order to effectively protect crews and vehicles, defence contractor KNDS and Munich-based start-up TYTAN Technologies are stepping up their cooperation. The integration of innovative interception systems and the development of new European standards will create the technological basis for AI-supported air defence.

KNDS and TYTAN Technologies have signed an agreement to expand their cooperation in the field of drone defence for military land systems. The signing took place in the presence of Katherina Reiche, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, by Balázs Nagy, CEO of TYTAN Technologies, and Mathias Nöhl, Executive Vice President for Digitalisation at KNDS. The partnership follows on from the successful integration of the Interceptor-S kinetic interception system into the Boxer RCT30 wheeled armoured vehicle, which was presented in autumn 2025 during a series of experiments conducted by the German Armed Forces in Munster.

The cooperation focuses on protecting land systems and their crews from unmanned aerial vehicles. KNDS, as a leading European supplier of land systems, and TYTAN Technologies, a start-up founded in 2023, are pooling their expertise for this purpose. In addition to the joint development of drone defence solutions, the collaboration also includes the establishment of a new European standard for mobile launch systems for unmanned aerial systems. The aim is to significantly increase protection in the areas of base security and front-line air defence.

    30 million euros for growth

In order to drive forward technological development and industrial scaling, TYTAN-Technologies has also completed a financing round worth 30 million euros. This increases the total capitalisation of the Munich-based company to 46 million euros. The financing is led by the NATO Innovation Fund and Armira, but existing investors such as Visionaries Club, Lakestar and OTB Ventures have also participated again. With this capital, the company plans to expand its production in Germany, Ukraine and other allied markets.

Thousands of interceptor drones for the front line

The relevance of these technologies is underlined by current developments on the modern battlefield. According to TYTAN Technologies, the massive use of low-cost drones is radically changing the requirements for air defence. Reports from Ukraine show that several hundred drones are being deployed there every day. The start-up already has confirmed government contracts to supply several thousand METIS interceptor drones to the Ukrainian armed forces. In Germany, the company is also cooperating with the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the German Armed Forces in protecting military facilities.

TYTAN Technologies has expanded its management structure for industrial scaling. Tahsin Kart, previously a senior engineer at Roketsan Missiles, among other positions, takes over responsibility for production as co-CEO. In addition, former NATO General Chris Badia joins the company’s board. According to Federal Minister Katherina Reiche, such capabilities are not only developed at a desk, but are shaped by real-world operational experience and a willingness to take risks.

The cooperation shows that the integration of artificial intelligence and agile hardware development into established large-scale military platforms is becoming the new industry standard for countering the threat posed by drone swarms. Furthermore, the massive funding from the NATO Innovation Fund underscores the confidence in European deep tech start-ups within the defence sector. For industry players, the development of new European standards for mobile launch systems signals a phase of consolidation and interoperability that will open up long-term market opportunities for specialised suppliers and developers in the counter-UAS field.
