„EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance“
In the summer of 2025, President Volodymyr Zelensky introduced the „Build with Ukraine“ initiative, which has recently gained noticeable momentum (as we reported). However, there has been little news about the „Drone Alliance with Ukraine“ announced by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in September 2025. Until now. The European Commission has now called on interested companies to participate in the „EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance“.
In her speech on the „State of the European Union“, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced on September 10th, 2025, that EU budget funds amounting to 6 billion euros would be allocated for a „Drone Alliance with Ukraine“. With today’s published call from the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space to the European UxS industry, inviting them to join as founding members in the initiative to strengthen the joint capabilities of the European Union and Ukraine in unmanned systems and drone defense, progress is finally being made. The goal of the initiative is to combine the practical experiences and short innovation cycles of Ukrainian companies with the production and manufacturing capacities of small, medium-sized, and large European companies. Companies that wish to become founding members of the „Drone Alliance with Ukraine“ can apply until May 25th, 2026.
