DroneShield Launches RfRecon

  • Enabling operators to detect, locate, and understand activity in the RF environment – from a single portable platform.

DroneShield, a global leader in advanced counter-drone technology, today announced the launch of its latest flagship product, the RfRecon, a portable RF intelligence solution designed to help defense, government, and security organizations better understand the electromagnetic environment wherever operations occur.

Built on DroneShield’s recently launched proprietary RfAI-3 intelligence architecture, RfRecon enables operators to rapidly sense, identify, locate, and assess RF activity from a single device. Rather than simply collecting spectrum data, it provides the operational context needed to support faster and more informed decisions in the field.

Modern operations increasingly depend on understanding the electromagnetic environment. The rapid growth of uncrewed systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and wireless communications has dramatically increased the volume of complexity of RF activity surrounding today’s operators. While sensing technologies have become more capable, interpreting that information still requires multiple systems, specialist expertise, or time-consuming analysis. RfRecon was developed to change that.

By combining ultra-wideband spectrum awareness, precision direction finding, and RfAI-3-powered signal intelligence within a single portable capability, RfRecon delivers immediate operational understanding while reducing operator workload and accelerating decision-making at the tactical edge.

RfRecon delivers a step change in capability versus previous industry adopted solutions, combining approximately six times more radio frequency spectrum coverage, four times greater processing and AI compute, 31 times more storage, and eight times more memory, while introducing advanced capabilities such as direction finding, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Remote ID, AIS/ADS-B detection, integrated GNSS, and hardware-based security. Collectively, these enhancements position RfRecon as a significantly more capable and future-ready sensing platform.

“The electromagnetic spectrum has become one of the most important sources of operational intelligence on the modern battlefield, but collecting data is no longer enough,” said Angus Bean, Chief Executive Officer of DroneShield. “The teams that gain the greatest advantage will be those that can rapidly understand what they’re seeing and confidently act on it. RfRecon reflects that shift by bringing RF intelligence directly to the tactical edge.”

RfRecon is designed to operate within a layered defense architecture, extending RF intelligence from the tactical edge to enterprise command-and-control. The capability supports dismounted, vehicle-mounted, expeditionary, and fixed-site operations, and its open architecture and support for industry-standard data transfer enable rapid integration into existing security and defense ecosystems.

RfRecon interoperates with the tools operators already rely on, including ATAK, third-party command-and-control platforms, and complementary sensor technologies. It can also form part of layered counter-UAS architectures incorporating cyber takeover and kinetic defeat capabilities. Whether deployed standalone or integrated into broader mission systems, RfRecon helps organizations build a more complete understanding of activity across the electromagnetic environment. RfRecon will continue to benefit from ongoing enhancements delivered through DroneShield’s software roadmap, ensuring customers gain access to future improvements in RF intelligence capabilities over time.

RfRecon is available immediately for qualified defense, government and security customers worldwide.
