Milrem Robotics and EOS Defence Systems sign cooperation agreement

Self-protection and combat value enhancement

Unmanned systems are increasingly integral to military operational concepts. In addition to improving UxS capabilities in ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) and as weaponry, self-protection is gaining more attention. Naturally, the loss of uncrewed systems should also be avoided. Milrem Robotics and EOS Defence Systems have signed an agreement to better protect drones against drone attacks in the future.

Small, cost-effective FPV (First Person View) drones can destroy even the most impressive battle tanks, which cost millions of euros. Not to mention the human casualties involved. Corresponding images and videos have been widely shared on social media since the onset of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, not only armored vehicles, military positions, and mobile weapon systems need protection from increasing aerial attacks. According to Milrem Robotics and EOS Defence Systems, this also includes Uncrewed Ground Vehicles (UGV). Thus, the Estonian UGV manufacturer and the Australian specialist for remote-controlled weapon systems have signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement. The joint goal is to explore new business opportunities and advance network-centric, collaborative combat robotics.

    System fusion

„The drone threat environment is increasingly mobile and contested, and effective defence can no longer be confined to fixed sites or crewed platforms“, said Andreas Schwer, CEO of Electro Optic Systems (EOS). „This teaming agreement extends EOS’ world-leading counter-drone systems onto unmanned ground platforms, supporting more flexible and layered defence approaches.” A key focus of the partnership will be joint research and development, particularly the integration of EOS’s advanced weapon systems, sensors, and effectors into Milrem Robotics’ unmanned ground vehicles.

„By combining Milrem Robotics’ unmanned ground vehicle expertise with EOS Defence Systems’ advanced weapon and integration capabilities, we are strengthening our ability to deliver scalable and mission-ready solutions for modern armed forces“, explains Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics. „This teaming agreement reflects our shared commitment to innovation, interoperability, and responding to evolving operational requirements.”
