Dronitaly at ENEA Brasimone for innovation in the PA

Drones and cutting-edge software to monitor, speed up and make the public sector safer, more innovative and efficient. This is the focus of the conference “Drones, advanced research and enterprises: innovation serving the Public Administration”, scheduled on September 16 at the ENEA Brasimone Research Centre, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

The event, which will also be in live streaming, is promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region in collaboration with ENEA, Assorpas and BolognaFiere Water&Energy-BFWE, with the aim of starting a constructive dialogue between the supply of companies and the Public Administration‘s demand for solutions. The main theme is the contribution that these new technologies can guarantee in terms of safety and environmental monitoring, also during complex and risky operations, making them quick, cheap and less dangerous.

The event in Brasimone will also be an opportunity to take stock of the major issues in the field, from regulations to technological innovations, and then to discuss them in depth at Dronitaly 2026, the international exhibition dedicated to the use of professional drones for civil use, scheduled from March 11 to 13, 2026 at the EX GAM Congress Centre of BolognaFiere.

The growing attention to these technologies, a fragile territory, increasingly exposed to calamitous events, and the presence of highly specialised companies, have led the Emilia-Romagna Region to invite the organisers of Dronitaly to plan a special event, to promote the potential of the sector and its applications, through moments of discussion, but also practical demonstrations in the field.

‘This is a preparatory event, a “Special Event”, included in the programme of initiatives leading up to the 11th edition of Dronitaly,’ comments Paolo Angelini, Managing Director of BFWE, who adds: ‘We are very proud of the trust that the Emilia-Romagna Region has given us in dealing with such an important topic. Drones are increasingly used in PA and have many applications. For this reason, we have decided to dedicate a specific event to the topic and then return to discuss it at Dronitaly 2026′.

The choice of the ENEA Brasimone Research Centre is part of an initiative oriented towards research and innovation, central elements of the drone sector.

‘The ENEA Brasimone Research Centre is home to the EXADRONE flight academy, the first public institution accredited by ENAC and one of the largest in Italy for training in critical scenarios for environmental monitoring, civil protection, security, inspections and infrastructure control,’ emphasizes Mariano Tarantino, head of the ENEA Nuclear Systems for Energy Division and EXADRONE account manager. ‘Our goal, in synergy with the Emilia-Romagna Region, is to strengthen the skills of the public sector, offering high-tech operational solutions responding to the real needs of the territory’.

An evocative natural environment, a well-equipped conference hall, and two airspaces approved by ENAC for VLOS (Visual Line of Sight) and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) flights, will allow participants to see the UAVs in action and to discuss technical and regulatory aspects during the conference.

A selected group of companies producing drones and cutting-edge softwares will present innovations, projects and products specifically made to be used in the public sector.

Also noteworthy is the role of Assorpas, the Italian association aggregating companies operating in the sector of small remotely piloted aircraft, main partner of Dronitaly. ‘Assorpas has always been the single point of contact between operators, sector activities, and national and international bodies in the aviation sector; it also acts as a collector between demand and supply, bringing together companies and the PA at a single table,’ says President Nicola Nizzoli.

In addition to companies in the drones sector, the event is intended for other regions such as Tuscany, municipalities, health authorities, ARPAE, Civil Protection, Land Reclamation Consortia, AIPO, airports, park authorities, Forestry Department, Fire Brigades, Plant Protection Consortia and universities.

BFWE is a joint venture founded in 2021 by BolognaFiere and Mirumir with the aim of developing an entrepreneurial project that contributes to the knowledge and sharing of issues related to the economic and social value of water and the world of drones, with a focus on related new technological applications (https://www.bfwe.it). Included in BFWE’s portfolio are the international ACCADUEO event dedicated to the water sector and DRONITALY, the only international event in Italy dedicated to the drone sector for professional civil use.
